NYAS (National Youth Advocacy Service) Volunteer Befriender/Mentor

NYAS operates a network of volunteers who give their time to mentoring and befriending children and young people in care. We are looking for volunteers in the Slough area. Our Independent Visitor Programme matches volunteers with children and young people who are particularly vulnerable. Each volunteer is matched with a child or young person who is either in care or may have a disability in their local area. Our volunteers commit to spending time with their young person each month, between 2 – 4 hours, helping their child or young person to engage in new experiences, share interests and hobbies and have fun.The volunteer will get the chance to meet up with a young person, who is looking forward to being taken out to have a nice time. You will be following the young person’s leisure interests, it could be going to the cinema, going to a theme park, fishing, watching football or just going to Nandos to name but a few. NYAS will pay your expenses (up to a budget) and you will arrange what you want to do between you, so both of you will get time out on us. We try to match volunteers with a young person that they share some common interests with, so maybe this will be a chance for you to share a hobby or to pass on your knowledge to the next generation. All of our volunteers receive training and ongoing support.
